At the time of this blog post it is February 2025
It is also the first month of the Year of the Snake (chinese new year)
If you don’t know what that exactly means, this is a year of shedding our old “skin” (aka things/people/toxicity that no longer serve us)
And February is the month of “love” to kick it all of!
And I don’t mean Valentine’s Day (although that is naturally where your mind went, yes?)
I mean self love!
Do you love yourself?
How does one measure that?
Or do you put everyone first in your life and make yourself DEAD last when it comes to love or self care?
To me, self love and self care are synonomous
Do you struggle with self care?
Or self love?
How do you show yourself kindness or put your oxygen mask on first?
Many people, especially women, see this as getting a manicure or a massage
Which is totally viable!
However, those are just 60 minutes or so out of your day/week/life
What about all the other 175 hours of the week?
I found out the hard way that I didn’t love myself
I was too burdened by “busyness” for so long that even my healing (massage, chiropractor, plant medicine treatments) were also rushed/hurried or looked at as maintenance to my broken heart and mind
I was also struggling with a lot of compound grief – loss/abandonment wounding, death, moving across country, career sudden losses or shifts….and that was all before my 30s!
Once I hit my 30s, becoming a mother (postpartum depression and a “loss” of my body freedom) and more death and self abandonment hit me
By the time I hit my 40s….I was, well, a bit of an autopilot zombie…even with a monthly massage, weekly chiropractic, acupuncture….all of that just simply became automatic as well.
Was I truly RECEIVING?
Or just simply going thru the motions and OVER giving?
What I realized after over 20 years of healing or self care modalities…that EVERY DAY adds up and EVERY DAY is part of that journey
The compound effect of my daily meditation and breathing practices gave me way more than any one massage or medicine ceremony could
I made time for myself every day first thing in the morning
Before kids, before husband, before breakfast, before clients, before social media and email
I put MY oxygen mask on first
Meditation to quiet the mind
Breathing in deep to tap into the parasympathetic nervous system and alleviate any fight or flight trauma responses for the day (to the best of my ability!)
I added in movement and started honoring my body with more nourishing food and drink
I also found that my grief was processed much faster/safer with a kundalini yoga kriya daily for 40 days straight
Admittedly 90 days ago I made a massive life changing decision in my life that triggered a lot of fear/anxiety and grief
Now I feel like a new woman – energized, more joy, more bliss
There was no plant medicine
There was a whole lotta self LOVE and self encouragement
For at the end of the day, we can ONLY save ourselves and heal ourselves.
I don’t think i really got this until now
It isn’t about a big healing or ceremonial event (although those are good!), it’s about the DAILY JOURNEY
And I want to help YOU experience more joy, more bliss, healthier relationships, more confidence, more energy
Ultimately, MORE love
And since we are in the month of LOVE in February, why not consider this NOW?
